A skill I acquired in high school that has been helping me during this internship is working with what what is given to me. The project I am currently working on is a paint shelf for all my mentors paint bottles and the materials that were given to me, Jade, and Sarah was cardboard, a hot glue gun, pencils, a ruler, and glue sticks. At first we weren't really sure how we were going to make a organized shelf for over a hundred paint bottles but thanks to High Tech High International, we managed to come up with a plan and start making it. Another skill that I have obtained from High Tech is being able to present/go up to strangers and talking to them. Claytime Ceramics is a small business in Ocean Beach that allows the public to come in to take a pottery class, paint ceramics, make mozaik pieces, and take painting classes. Since our mentor is the only one working at her business, there are times when she needs to leave her store for a little to pick up her son or to run an errand so while she is away, we would have to watch the store. Well while watching the store, we should have costumers come in and we would have to talk them about what the store has to offer, set them up to start working on whatever project they wanted to do or talk to a class about the project they are about to start. Because of High Tech, I had the courage to go up to them and somewhat present in front of strangers on a daily basis.
I feel like this shelf that I am working on is similar to most hands on projects we have created in the past at High Tech because most of the time, we have to work with what is given to us. Especially in our junior year when we took an engineering class where we were building shelfs and stools, we had to work with what was given to us.
